Airbnb is launching a completely new design to ensure that you may travel precisely how and where you want.
On Tuesday, the home rental firm launched a slew of platform upgrades, including a new tool called Airbnb Categories, which makes it easier to find one-of-a-kind houses in regions you might not have considered previously.
“Airbnb Categories are groups of houses sorted by what makes them special,” Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky explained in a video on the platform’s new capabilities.
According to Chesky, who announced new upgrades at a press event in New York City, Airbnb Categories now comprises more than 4 million distinct houses worldwide.
“All of these properties already exist on Airbnb, but you simply don’t know what you have unless you go through the process of classifying millions and millions of homes,” Chesky noted.
When visitors visit Airbnb, they will now see 56 categories that group properties into selected collections based on their distinct style, location, or proximity to travel activities.
The new “Design” category contains almost 20,000 residences chosen for their architecture and interior design.
It’s a category that, according to Airbnb, corresponds to traveller interest. Airbnb disclosed in a statement that Wishlists with the word “design” in the title increased 175 percent in 2021 compared to 2019.
The new search filter will allow consumers to think about what sort of vacation they want to take rather than just where they want to go.
You may now, for example, search by “”Camping,” “Countryside,” and, as Chesky points out, “if you really want to get out of town, there’s even the Arctic.” “How about looking for Castles?” “We have a lot of them,” says the narrator “Chesky elaborated.
There’s also a new category called “OMG,” which Chesky noted is full with homes from all around the world that are simply too distinctive to fit into any other category.
“We were attempting to come up with a name for this category, and ‘OMG’ summed it up perfectly,” he explained.
Assume you have a general idea of the nation or location you wish to visit. The new Categories function can assist you in finding the ideal location
Travelers planning a trip to or around France may now search the nation as well as their preferred category.
The smart map will not only show houses inside the category and area, but will also zoom out to show properties within the category somewhat beyond the bounds, encouraging visitors to think outside the box when planning their next vacation home excursion.
“We’re hoping to spotlight regions and properties that you wouldn’t have searched for otherwise,” Chesky added.
In total, the Airbnb founder noted that there are 56 unique types of houses on Airbnb, representing 4.4 million properties. In other words, “there’s truly a category for everyone,” he says.
